XPRIZE Water Scarcity, a $119 million, multi-year global competition, designed to drive widespread access to clean water through reliable, affordable, and sustainable seawater desalination systems, has recognised Waterwhelm as a Qualifying Team for its potentially game-changing, and environmentally and financially sustainable forward osmosis technology for water reuse and desalination.
Waterwhelm has been selected as a Qualifying Team for the prestigious XPRIZE Water Scarcity that is backed by the Mohamed bin Zayed Water Initiative. The competition supports competing teams to further develop their technology that can responsibly expand access to the water contained in Earth’s seas and oceans, positively impacting billions of people globally, and creating a world where clean water is more equitably available and sustainably abundant.
Waterwhelm’s game-changing and ultra-low pressure forward osmosis technology, powered by waste heat, solar thermal or geothermal heat, transforms seawater into clean water for industrial purposes. As a Qualifying Team, Waterwhelm are one step closer to demonstrating its technology, which is proven to operate at the lowest-ever rate of electricity consumption and CO2 emissions for water reuse and desalination, at a larger, commercial scale.
Waterwhelm is committed to this, driven by its vision to make water available and affordable for all, irrespective of location, climatic conditions and resources.
