SWCC (Saudi Arabia) Seawater Desalination

Waterwhelm has secured a demonstration project for its desalination technology with the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) in Saudi Arabia (KSA). The project will apply Waterwhelm’s technology to a concentrated solar power system (solar thermal troughs) as an alternative to waste heat from industry. At present, only 1% of total global desalinated water is produced using energy from renewable sources.

The project will pre-emptively support KSA’s current and future hydrogen production targets which, through its Vision 2030 strategy, is the generation of 50% of the nation’s electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. This implementation of our technology will also allow more freshwater to utilised for upcoming megaprojects and improve water availability for local populations. The project will show how renewable thermal energy can be combined with Waterwhelm’s technology to deliver a plant enabling the lowest-ever rate of electricity consumption for seawater desalination with significantly reduced CO2 emissions, and lower capital and maintenance cost than the installed base.
