Waterwhelm has been awarded £450k of funding as one of the 10 winners out of the original 247 applications in the prestigious Ofwat Water Discovery Challenge. Partnering with AtkinsRéalis, this project will facilitate further engagement with the UK water sector; developing a pipeline of opportunities for the deployment of our technology in water re-use and desalination projects. The project will allow us to pilot the technology at a Northumbrian Water site where we will use the technology with lower grades of waste heat.
As recognised by Ofwat, Waterwhelm presents a major opportunity for the UK water sector, significantly reducing the cost of producing freshwater for industrial re-use purposes. Therefore alleviating pressures on local water networks, through a transformative sustainable and cost-effective supply-side option, mitigating water scarcity and addressing climate change effects. This also enables us to support the increasing water demands from industrial development, for example in renewable energy generation, manufacturing, hydrogen production and sustainable aviation fuel production.
